Her work has been published in many publications, most recently in <em>Fall Lines, 2019<\/em>. Her chapbook <em>water unto light <\/em>was published by Finishing Line Press 2014. She lives in Columbia, SC with her husband, a musician and son, an artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Housebound&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that people are sick<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">it would be a good time to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">take up a hobby you\u2019ve always&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">been interested in: cooking or&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">baking, cross-stitch or knitting&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(we try but we cannot)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that people lack ventilators<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you should revisit the talents<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you have neglected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">drawing, writing, making music,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">taking colorful photographs of birds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">in your backyard<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(we try but we cannot)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that people\u2019s lungs&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">are filling with fluids<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you should listen to the music&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you loved from your youth, sing&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">out loudly if you\u2019re not ashamed&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(we try but we cannot)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that bodies are in meat trucks&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">because the morgue is overwhelmed&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you should hit the treadmill, try out yoga,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">drink powdered protein shakes that make<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you lean and trim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(we try but we cannot)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that you or a loved one&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">has fallen sick, unable to breathe,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and lack a ventilator<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">you should pray for angels to stand<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">at the bedside, ask them to perform<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">their holy works<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(we fragile humans simply cannot)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heather Dearmon is a poet and photographer.
